29th Annual Christmas Festival Features Live Entertainment, BBQ Cook-off, Softball Tournament, Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest, All-Day Kids Fun, 5K and 1K Fun Runs
Nov. 16, 2015 - The Sealy Community Foundation rings in the holiday season with Sealy’s 29th Annual Fantasy of Lights festival Dec. 4 - 5, 2015. The weekend’s theme is Camo Christmas and is packed with activities for all ages including live entertainment, arts and crafts booths, food vendors, a BBQ cook-off, a 5K and 1K fun run benefitting the Sealy PTA, softball tournament, pageants, ugly holiday sweater contest and the Kids Fantasy event with crafts, live snowfall and a visit from Santa himself. It’s all capped off with a tree lighting and lighted parade Saturday evening.
“The Fantasy of Lights festival is part of Sealy’s charm,” said Melanie Willingham, President of the Sealy Community Foundation. “Throughout the weekend the community celebrates together whether it’s watching your granddaughter perform a dance recital on Main Street, waving to the Boy Scouts in the parade or sharing a hot chocolate with Grandma. We offer something for everyone to get in the Christmas spirit and make special memories.”
Many of the events directly benefit local kids. The BBQ cook-off and Snowball Softball Tournament both ask for donations of toys with entry fees to be donated to the Sealy Volunteer Fire Department. The proceeds from the 10th Annual Jingle Bell Fun Run go to the Sealy PTA.
The 6th Annual BBQ Cook-off gets underway Friday, Dec. 4 at B&PW Park with awards announced Saturday, Dec. 5. Softball teams will duke it out for team and individual prizes Dec. 4 - 6, 2015. Early Saturday, kids, families and athletes will line up for the Jingle Bell 1K and 5K fun runs, which benefit the Sealy PTA. Last year, the fun runs raised $7,500, which through programs and donations, directly benefited Selman Elementary and Intermediate schools.
The Kids Fantasy event is $5 per child and runs 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in Levine Park. Kids can play in real snow, ride a camel, make arts and crafts, and much more. Santa himself will also make an appearance in Levine Park’s Gazebo. While the kids play, cruise around the square to shop and enjoy some tasty food and hot chocolate as the arts and crafts and food vendors set up shop around Levine Park on Dec. 5, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Also, throughout the day local live entertainment will be featured on Main Street, including dance recitals, singers and the Christian City Band. New this year is the Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest to be judged at the stage on Main Street before the parade. After a day of fun, enjoy the festive tree lighting after dark and sit back and marvel as the lighted parade makes its way through town.
