The 30th Annual Christmas Festival Features a Gingerbread Decorating Contest, Live Entertainment, BBQ Cook-off, Softball Tournament, All-Day Kids Fun, 5K and 1K Fun Runs
SEALY, TX - Nov. 7, 2016 - The Sealy Community Foundation kicks off the holiday season with Sealy’s 30th Annual Fantasy of Lights festival Dec. 2-3, 2016. The weekend’s theme celebrates Christmas Movies and is packed with activities for all ages. Events include the festival’s first ever Gingerbread House Decorating contest, a BBQ cook-off, a 5K and 1K fun run, the Snowball Classic softball tournament, pageants, and the Kids Fantasy in the park with live entertainment, crafts, specialty booths, real snowfall and snow slide, and a visit from Santa himself. It’s all capped off lighted parade Saturday evening.
“The Fantasy of Lights festival has become a tradition to many Sealy residents who look forward to kicking off the Christmas season at this fun event,” said Melanie Willingham, President of the Sealy Community Foundation. “It’s a weekend with something for everyone and many opportunities to share in the Christmas spirit with family and friends. We hope to see everyone at Fantasy of Lights as we celebrate the 30th year of this special festival!”
Many of the events directly benefit local kids. The BBQ cook-off and Snowball Softball Tournament both require donations of toys, then donate much of their proceeds to organizations within Austin County. Each year he proceeds from the Jingle Bell Fun Run go to the Sealy PTA.
The 7th Annual BBQ Cook-off gets underway Friday, Dec. 2 at B&PW Park with awards announced Saturday, Dec. 3. Softball teams will duke it out for team and individual prizes Dec. 1-3.
Let your holiday creativity shine in the Fantasy of Light’s first-ever Gingerbread House Decorating contest! Kits can be purchased for $10 at the Sealy Chamber of Commerce, 309 Main Street, until Dec. 2. All entries must be turned in by Saturday, Dec. 3, in downtown Sealy, at 223 Main Street. Winners and all entries will be displayed, for everyone to enjoy, until 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.
Early Saturday, kids, families and athletes will line up for the 11th Annual Jingle Bell 1K and 5K fun runs, which benefit the Sealy PTA. New this year, kids 12 and under can participate in the challenging, Blizzard Blitz, where kids race in both the 1K and the 5K for a special prize and bragging rights. Last year, the runs raised $9,500, which through programs and donations, directly benefitted Selman Elementary and Intermediate schools.
The Kids Fantasy event is $5 per child and runs 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in Levine Park. Kids can play in real snow and slide down an actual snow slide, ride a camel, make arts and crafts, and much more. Santa himself will also make an appearance in Levine Park’s Gazebo. While the kids play, cruise around the square to shop and enjoy some tasty food and hot chocolate in the specialty booths set up the park.
Also, throughout the day local live entertainment will be featured on Main Street, including dance recitals, singers and the Christian City Praise Band. After a day of fun, sit back and marvel as the lighted parade makes its way through town.
